November is National Novel Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo. The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. If you want to sign up, there’s a whole organization to help writers achieve this goal, including tips, word-count tracking, pep talks, forums etc. It’s free; there are no prizes other than the satisfaction of completing the challenge. Check out http://nanowrimo.org

This month I don’t have that much time to devote to writing, but one member of our Writers’ Group suggested our own variation: 1000/day for two  months. Four of us have taken on the challenge. At Kingston Writersfest in 2014, Canadian poet Susan Musgrave reminded us that it takes writing daily for at least three weeks to create a habit. If we are successful, that will be the best reward of all. It’s Day 4 and I’m up to 4488 words. Wish me luck.
