Petticoats and long dresses, buttons and boots, hair nets and hats. On the Saturday of Labour Day weekend, I was treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the Costuming Department at Upper Canada Village when I donned an outfit that might have been taken out of Finding Home.

Trying to climb stairs and dismount from a stage coach in a full skirt was a challenge and I wasn’t completely successful in keeping my hem out of the mud, but it was certainly an enjoyable day.

Many times I had my picture taken and was asked questions about the village. Fortunately my host and escort, who works in the blacksmith, carpentry and tin shops was there with the answers.

Many thanks, Sperry Lee, for a fabulous day spent back in 1866.
