The writing of this novel began in 2006. Now, seventeen years later, it has finally been published.
As a way of spending more time together, my co-author, Ruth Allen and I decided to write a book. It took some time to figure out how to write as a team, but gradually we streamlined the process. Although we had different writing styles, over time, they seemed to converge.
The original manuscript was over 285,000 words long. Obviously, the story needed major editing. Ruth and I both enjoyed the writing, but editing is not Ruth’s thing so, at that point, she turned the whole project over to me.
I added a couple of subplots and ruthlessly slashed the manuscript. My writing group helped me polish each chapter and, with the formatting expertise of Maureen Garvie, the book was ready for publication. And now, here is it: an early Christmas present!
