Djembes, Ashikos, doumbeks, congas, tars, shekeres… last weekend had them all and more at the drum camp held at Camp Oconto on Eagle Lake, north of Kingston, Ontario. From Thursday afternoon to Sunday’s closing circle, the days and nights were full of workshops, puppet and shaker making, community jams, yoga, swimming and talent-sharing by women from several provinces and states. It was both exhilarating and exhausting. I’m already looking forward to next year’s camp. Many thanks to organizers, Judith Comartin and Laurestine Swain.
