Anyone who knows me will tell you that I value being “productive” and that I get up early. Right now it’s 5:30 am. I’ve already collected a pile of dirty clothes, towels and sheets from last weekend’s family visit. The first load is in the washing machine and there are two more piles sorted on the floor. And what am I doing while I wait? I’m on my treadmill AND I’m writing this blog!
Who knew that I could exercise and use the computer at the same time? Recently I heard that being sedentary is one of the worst things people can do. Sitting around even negates any exercise during the day. Considering the amount of time that writers spend sitting in front of their computers, that doesn’t bode well. I’ve heard that standing desks are the newest fad, but that doesn’t really appeal to me and besides, there’s no room in our house for another desk. What to do?
Last weekend when we gathered here to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving, Cheryl-Ann explained how she and her husband had set up their treadmill as a desk. With my penchant for “productivity”, this type of multi-tasking was just the ticket. Behan found an extra board in the garage and voilĂ ! my treadmill became a desk. Laundry day is the perfect time to try it out. It’s now been 18 minutes, and I’ve almost walked a mile. Not at breakneck speed, but considering that I’m doing two things at once – well three, including the laundry – not bad!
